Ja's Williams wins 400m in Florida
By ANTHONY FOSTER, Freelance Writer  Andrea Bliss - File NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE Novlene Williams produced a NCAA provisional qualifying mark to win the 400 metres at the Florida Intercoll-egiates in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday. Running for the University of Florida, Williams, who was selected on Jamaica's team to the ninth IAAF World Athletics Champion-ships in Paris, clocked 53.10 in taking the one lap event. The former Ferncourt High School athlete returned later along with Tiandra Ponteen, Kamille Bratton and Andrea Bliss to capture the mile relay in 3:41.89 for the Gators. At the same meet, Bliss, a former St. Jago athlete, finished second in the 55m hurdles in a provisional qualifying time of 7.65 seconds The former Girls Champs 400m hurdles champion finished just behind former NCAA champion Joyce Bates. Meanwhile American Gail Devers, the reigning World Indoor champion, is down to compete in the 60 metres hurdles line-up at the Adidas Boston Indoor Games on January 31. The 37-year-old Devers, winner of the World Indoor 60m title in Birmingham last year is expected to be challenged in Boston by Melissa Morrison, who was third in the 100m hurdles at the 2000 Olympics, Miesha McKelvy-Jones, the 2003 World outdoor bronze medalist and Anjanette Kirkland, the 2001 World Indoor and Outdoor winner who is returning after giving birth to a daughter last May.
