Suspects identified in fire-bombing case

THE KINGSTON WEST police say they know who is responsible for the firebombing of a house in Maxfield Avenue, yesterday, which killed four persons.

Deputy Superintendent Delroy Hewitt in charge of operations in the division told THE STAR that they have already identified the suspects. However, it will take the police sometime to find them. He added, however, that the police had launched a search for the men.

CLEARING OF BUSHES

In an effort to decrease the crime in the community, Hewitt said the police yesterday organised the clearing of some bushes and the removal of old cars in the community to minimise hiding areas for criminals.

Hewitt added that the police have been and will continue to maintain a strong presence in the community.

A family of four were burnt to death at their home along Maxfield Avenue after their house was firebombed by several armed men. Police report that at about 3:00 a.m. heavily-armed gunmen invaded the Barnes Avenue area off Maxfield Avenue in Kingston and firebombed the house.

When the occupants attempted to escape, the men are said to have fired several shots at the house.

Dead are 50-year-old Gerald Brown and his 60-year-old wife Dacas, 25-year-old Michelle Brown and 10-year-old Shanikie Brown.

The police said the murder is part of an ongoing gang feud in the area. They also say that it could be a reprisal killing for a man who was shot and injured in the same area and who was wanted by the police.
